While there may be questions concerning the exact requirements of Florida's resign to run law (requiring candidates to announcement of their resignation of their current position while seeking another elected position) the result is that due to the resignation of two City Council members (Linda Saul-Sena and John Dingfelder) two elected City Council seats are now vacant. The rules call for the vacancy to be filled by the selection of the remaining Council members for the balance of the term. In this case, new elections will be held on March 1 of 2011.
Almost 70 total applicants have stepped forward. Since the public will not have the opportunity to vote on their choice, we felt we should give you a chance to express your choice.
The City Council makes important decisions affecting residents lives every day. These two new appointments have the opportunity to significantly affect the quality of life in Tampa.
Some of the applicants are well known through business, community involvement, and their public life.
We welcome your comments about the candidates, the method of selection, and the future of Tampa. PLEASE EXPRESS YOUR CHOICES IN THE POLL ON THE RIGHT.
