South Howard Avenue businesses have finally reported a significant pick up in business. It has been a start and go season but may finally be on track. However, not for everyone. Watch for some retail businesses to close in the near year. Gasparilla will provide a big shot in the cash register for the bars and restaurants at the end of the month, but watch for the large Festival taking place on Ashley Street and at the new Curtis Hixon park to take more of the Gasparilla party crowd to downtown for all of the activities.
The former Po’Boys, Red House, Corner Bar – now Drink, location is still not open. Signs indicate a planned opening for New Years Eve 2009 but stop work orders issued by the city just before Christmas may have stopped that from happening. This will be the second botched opening by the Wet Group if it does not happen on New Years Eve. Their initial opening of AJA in Channelside was met with lots of Tampa Police officers, the Fire Marshal, and a resulting shut down just as the opening party got underway. We have given up on the number of times we have been told this club would open. But it has been over a year now. AND SPEAKING OF Po'Boys - how about a blast from the past ? Have a look here. (The sign was immediately removed after our last posting)

Where did he go ? Shaun, the former manager of Cork, is now the manager of the Dubliner North at Gunn Highway and Henderson.
It was Holiday time in SOHO as several hundred partiers contributed toys in conjunction with the Marines Toys for Tots drive. There was plenty of fun and Miller Lite beer for everyone to enjoy the holiday spirit. MacDintons, Cork, The Dubliner, The Rack, and SOHO Tavern made sure fun times were had by all. See the pics here.
